Zhongdian county in Yunnan province officially renamed itself Shangri-La county in 2001. It has two main areas: Dukezong Ancient Town and a more modern area. The two areas share Tuanjie Street as the common border. Dukezong is located in the southeast section of Shangri-La. It has a history dating back more than 1300 years. Most of the buildings here are white in color and feature the Tibetan style architecture.
