The Bund, also called Zhongshang Road, lies to the west of the Huanpu River. The bund was a famous street. It was the center of Shanghai’s politics, economy and culture hundreds of years ago. The street starts from Baidu Bridge to the East Jinling Road with a length of about 1.5 kilometer, featuring various Western style buildings from before World War II. These various grandiose, solid buildings have different architectural styles such as Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance, etc. Crossing the Huangpu River from the Bund is the commercial center of Pudong, the home of the Oriental Pearl Tower. The Oriental Pearl Tower is the highest building in Asia and the third highest in the world. Together with dozens of other new high rise towers; the modern city of Shanghai is proudly presented itself. Especially at night, when the lights are on among those buildings, wondering on this waterfront street with the old side of Shanghai on one side and new on the other would make it truly a must have sightseeing and a pleasant evening stroll.
