China is divided into the following regions:

• Northeast China: Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang. Dongbei
• North China: Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin. The Yellow river basin area, historical heartland of China.
• Northwest China: Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang. grasslands and deserts, nomadic people, Islam.
• Southwest China: Tibet, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou.
• Southern central China: Anhui, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi.
• Southeast China: Guangdong, Hainan, Fujian. The traditional trading center.
• East China: Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang.
